The Caitiff

Thin Bloods, Vermin and Traitors

The Caitiff

Unlife does not get any easier for these poor souls.

Treated as the scum of the earth for their Clanless roots. The Caitiff have experienced pain, suffering and blame since their discovery as part of the Kindred. Being blamed for every single wrong in the world of Vampires has been happening for so long, many simply have accepted the regular beatings, torture, and occasionally being hunted by an overzealous Sherriff. But it is now so much worse.

Blamed for betraying the Kindred as a species to the Hunters and brining about the fall of Vampire society. The Caitiff are now hated and vilified, even by the easiest going of Malkavians. And though rumours exist that they were simply the scapegoats for the Eclipse. They are but whispers compared to the united force of the Kindred who scream their hatred for those they have lost directly at the Clanless Caitiff. Now they must hide or face a painful and very final death. At least until the Kindred know that they are not to blame.

But that will not happen soon.

Clan Flaw: Traitor Scum

The flaw of the Caitiff is inherently a social one, but a dangerous one never the less. For they are blamed as one for the Eclipse that brought all of Kindred civilisation to its knees and handed many of their greatest to the Hunters. This is represented in game as follows:

If a Kindred has Anarch or Camarilla Lore 4, they have more direct knowledge that the Caitiff are not to blame for the Eclipse and may react as they wish. This also applies if they have Caitiff Lore of 2+. However, those with Anarch or Camarilla Lore less than 4, no sect lore, or Caitiff Lore of less than 2 fully believe the rumours regarding the Caitiff and must roleplay the emotional reaction that most Kindred feel for the Caitiff “betrayal”. Note, this mechanic only comes into play if someone knows the character is a Caitiff so the Narrator Team recommend care with who the Caitiff Character shares this with and an investment in the “Alternative Identity” background would be recommended.

Clan Advantage: Freedom of Thin Blood

As the Caitiff belong to no Clan, they possess no In-Clan Disciplines to speak of. Likewise, they possess no out of Clan Disciplines either. This is represented by selecting 2 Disciplines at character creation to spend their character creation points on. These Disciplines cannot be Venatic or Thaumaturgy.  Freebie points from character creation may increase these Disciplines at a cost of 3pts per dot and may not learn new Disciplines beyond those selected at this stage. From this point onwards, the Caitiff must find a teacher for any new Discipline they wish to learn, and the starting dot will cost 6xp. In addition, any development in disciplines will cost 4xp times the level the discipline is currently at.
